Massage Therapy Career Information

The profession of a massage therapist has changed over the last decade. Many people are now seeking an exciting and rewarding career in this health care field. Therapeutic massage professionals are more clinical in their approach and knowledgeable in their ability to work with soft tissue dysfunction. Consumer demand for massage from massage therapists continues to grow. Between 1998 and 2002, the number of American adults who reported getting a massage from a massage therapist in the previous year doubled, from 8% to 16%.

Salary Information

Many full time massage therapists can earn as much as $40,000 to $60,000 per year. However, many individuals in the profession choose to pursue massage as a part time vocation. As a result, average hours per week devoted to massage is approximately 25 hours and median income from the practice of massage therapy is $35,000*.
